Read in 2 minutes
Starting in 2026, all invoices between Belgian companies will have to go through the Peppol network. But did you know that you can already receive your utility invoices in electronic format now? You can request this from the main water and energy suppliers in Belgium by filling out an online form. This quick guide explains how to activate electronic invoicing at Engie.
How do I start getting electronic invoices from Engie?
Do you own or rent a premises that’s used solely for your professional activity? And do you receive separate energy bills for that premises via a professional account with Engie? If yes, you can now receive your energy bills in the form of e-invoices.
To be able to receive electronic invoices from Engie, you first need to be registered on Peppol. Have you already signed up? Great, then keep reading.

To do this, simply activate electronic invoicing on your Engie professional account.
Here are the steps:
- Complete the Engie online form.
- Engie processes your request.
- The following month, you’ll receive your first electronic invoice.
⚠️ Electronic invoices are only possible between companies. So if you only receive invoices for your private home, you don’t have a professional account with Engie. You therefore won’t be able to receive your electronic invoices via Peppol, even if you deduct part of your energy costs.
What is Peppol and what is electronic invoicing?
An important point: electronic invoices and digital invoices are not one and the same. While a PDF invoice is a digital invoice, it is not an electronic invoice.
Electronic invoices, also called e-invoices, are XML files transferred in UBL format via the Peppol network. Thanks to these UBL standards, all the necessary information is included on the invoice, and it can be read by accounting or invoicing software.
These software programs can automatically create, receive, and even process electronic invoices. They can even be authorised to pay invoices automatically.
💡 Accountable tip: You can use Accountable to receive and send electronic invoices via the Peppol network, even if you’re using the free version. Try Accountable now.
